PRCrossing Finds That Despite U.S. Economic Concerns, Projected PR Job Rates Are Promising

March 25, 2008   |  PDF version  PDF version

Pasadena, CA — With many industries’, like real estate’s and financial services’, projected outlooks looking rather grim for the coming months and years, public relations professionals can breathe a sigh of relief according to PRCrossing (www.prcrossing.com).

PRCrossing, which now features more than 4,500 active PR jobs, witnessed this job jump firsthand at the start of 2008.

According to PRCrossing its job count more than doubled between January and February of this year, a huge leap from last year’s public relations job count.

The latest research from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Manual reports that public relations specialist and manager jobs are on the rise. According to the manual PR specialists will see an 18% job growth rate between 2006 and 2016, which is much greater than the average projected growth of all other occupations.

Public relations managers can also anticipate a similar growth rate of 17% in their league. An increase in entry-level hiring competition is also expected, urging college students to prepare themselves for a more challenging job-search process after graduation.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ recently updated Occupational Outlook Manual also expands on the job descriptions of public relations specialists and public relations managers, a dramatic update from the bureau’s older descriptions for the jobs.

The extended explanations of PR specialist and PR manager job titles went from a couple of sentences last year to several paragraphs’ worth of broad description.
