Temporary Health Promotion Specialist

This position will be responsible for coordinating, evaluating and maintaining a variety of prevention programs and activities on the campus. The primary focus of the position will be stress and resiliency, mental health and wellbeing, health lifestyle, substance misuse prevention. This position may supervise student employees. Candidate should have the ability to supervise, motivate, educate, and energize student employees.

Specific duties:

Conducting research to measure student health risks and assets

Define student health needs and communicate these findings to the campus population

Work with the department director to establish the goals, objectives and strategies for primary prevention to address these health needs

Develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs to address designated priority student health issues.

Responsibilities include:

Assess student health needs through a variety of surveys, assessments and evaluation tools, and then effectively communicate the information to stakeholders within Curry and around the campus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information in a variety of media to diverse audiences

Knowledge and experience with statistics and research methods.

Advanced knowledge of SPSS

Advanced computer skills with a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with college health principals and strategies

Attention to detail, organizational skills, solution-oriented

Prepare, implement and manage health and wellness programs using current theories and practices specific to the college population. Use current research to develop programs and services to address student health priorities

In depth understanding of the theory and implementation of Social Marketing strategy as it relates to health behaviors

The ability to create original educational materials and programs for diverse groups

The ability to facilitate diverse groups addressing any health or wellness topic

Knowledge and experience with research methods including qualitative/quantitative research skills

The ability to work within a team environment

Evaluate and assess programs and services offered by Curry Health Center Wellness.

Experience with statistical analysis

Assist Curry department directors with Evaluation projects.

Experience using online survey tools, including Qualtrics

Clear and directive communication

Strong interpersonal skills including empathy, listening skills, problem solving

Assist the Director of Wellness with the overall operations of the Wellness department. Including the training and supervision of the peer educators & student employees. Provide oversight of programming and outreach efforts.

Strong leadership skills and the ability to be a positive role model

Ability to create a positive team environment

Skill in grant writing, development, and implementation

Considerable knowledge of marketing and public relations

Experience in budget management and reporting

Ability to facilitate group discussion and goal setting

Working knowledge of systems-based health promotion

Create strategic campus collaborations to foster a campus culture of well-being. Act as a resource for health education and health promotion information for students and staff.

Working knowledge of health education theory, principles and practices including Collective Impact Theory

Considerable knowledge about specific health issues including primary and secondary prevention

Ability to maintain confidentiality

An understanding and appreciation of diversity

Post Training Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience working in a health promotion programs with students on a college campus.

Knowledge of current and emerging issues regarding wellness, health, learning, higher education, socio-ecological model, behavior change, systems, built environments and evidence-based practice and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to a population in a higher education setting.

Experience in social media and health communications strategies.

Experience in training and supervising student workers.

Ability to facilitate group discussion and goal setting.

Knowledge and experience with research methods including qualitative/quantitative research skills.

Minimum Required Experience

Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, or other related field, or an equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree and at least one (1) year of relevant work experience.

Experience working as a health promotion professional beyond internships or summer jobs.

Experience in developing strategic goals and measurable outcomes for health promotion programs and services.

Demonstrated communication skills that contribute to successful collaborations with relevant stakeholders.

Experience in data collection, analysis, application and assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. or MPH preferred

CHES preferred

Health Coaching experience preferred

Full-time, 1.0 FTE Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, possible evening and weekend hours. This is expected to be a temporary position for one year.

$20.00-$23.00/hr
