Purpose
As part of the U.S. External Relations team supporting the Deep Water Gulf of Mexico (GoM), this role will: provide internal and external communications support for the GoM producing assets and ventures in development (enterprise and change management focus); work under the supervision of the GoM ER Manager and in strong collaboration and integration with other ER, IC and COE focal points locally, regionally and globally to ensure alignment across country and business needs.
Located in New Orleans, this role sits within US External Relations team and drives both strategic and tactical communications execution in support of the Gulf of Mexico business, which delivers nearly half of Global Deep Water production and near-term growth.
Accountabilities
Drive integrated plans to support the Deep Water business delivery in the Gulf of Mexico to include creating and delivering all aspects of communications for the project (enterprise and change management focus) with a specific emphasis on internal communications delivery and alignment, in partnership with senior leaders and under the guidance of the GoM ER Manager and in coordination with the Senior IC Advisor, US, and the Global Deep Water IC Advisor. Similar to other asset and business models, IC support will include both editorial content development and broad (onshore and offshore GoM) staff engagements.
Delivery of successful internal communications plans and activities, in alignment with global IC CoE standards and guidelines and in direct or indirect collaboration with IC counterparts, including the Senior IC Advisor, US; the IC Content Advisor, Deep Water Gulf of Mexico; Global Deep Water ER; Global Deep Water IC.
Responsible and accountable for delivering the full spectrum of IC duties from planning and execution to measurement and reporting.
Work in partnership with U.S. and Deep Water ER colleagues to strengthen and leverage external and internal engagements.
Develop engaging safety and environment communication plans to improve the safety culture across the GOM.
Dimensions
Fundamental to this role will be experience with communication planning, change management and risk integration.
Comfortable travelling offshore, as required, to deliver compelling IC engagement plans and projects to staff and contractors working at Shell-operated facilities.

Special Challenges
Recognizing that the Deep Water is transitioning to an Shell cash engine by 2020, there is naturally a significant amount of interest in the development, maintenance and overall operations of the GOM with key internal stakeholders. Given the extent to which the Lines of Business and Centers of Excellence work together – this individual will need to work closely with the GOM ER Manager and senior business leaders to ensure alignment, awareness and often co-creation and delivery of activities. As such, a priority is developing a dynamic and creative internal communications program that is not only fully aligned with global IC standards, but more important is specifically designed to help deliver critical business priorities, presents a range of special challenges.
Additional Comments
Create and seek buy-in and approval for communications plans, in partnership with the project senior leaders, under the direction and guidance of the GoM ER manager, and in alignment with global IC CoE standards (8-step process) to support critical business priorities and the successful delivery of the project.
Continually assess impacts and needs tied to internal communications plans and update and adjust as needed in line with milestones and stages of development over time.
Participate as a member of the U.S. and Deep Water IC networks to share best practices and leverage communication channels
Participate as a member of the global Deep Water IC editorial process and provide creative internal content and story ideas for consideration to support the objectives of the business’ internal communications plan.
Provide counsel and support to senior leaders regarding broad staff communications and engagement/dialogue opportunities.
Create and distribute local communications materials as required
Share oversight and contribute input to the GOM/Deep Water Yammer group, encouraging LT active participation and engagement.
Provide all tactical/logistics support for broad staff engagements/town halls; develop town hall materials (slide packs, talking points) to assist the GOM VP.
Work with the Creative Solutions as required to create visual materials for internal communications and engagement needs.
Work alongside the GoM ER team for planning and scheduling engagements and other activities for Shell leader visits.
Assume additional ER/duties (external) as required during peak workload periods or in response to issues and crises.

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field.
Minimum of five (5) years related experience.
An understanding of the energy industry and related work experience.
Previous experience partnering with safety and environment to translate business and safety objectives into multi-channel internal communication plans.
Ability to secure the trust of senior business leaders and key internal stakeholders.
Dedicated internal communications experience, including content development and staff engagements.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including sound writing and speaking skills.
Strong listening and influencing skills to enlist involvement/support from all levels of internal stakeholders and colleagues.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
