Humana seeks an experienced public relations pro to join its Corporate Communications media relations team. We're looking for a self-starter who can develop productive relationships with journalists, counsel senior leaders and carry public relations plans from concept to completion.
Responsibilities
The Corporate Communications Lead implements policies and programs to enhance and protect corporate reputation and brand among external audiences such as news media, consumers, influential thought leaders, health care providers, employers and others. Advises executives to develop functional strategies on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues and works under minimal supervision.

This position is open for work at home or in any Humana office in the following states: AR, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, OK, OH, PA, SD, WI or WV.
Key Role Functions
Enhance Humana's reputation, brand and visibility through well-executed strategic media relations, public relations and communications.
Responsibilities encompass media relations, public relations, digital and social media, and thought leadership/executive communications.
Act as company spokesperson and media liaison for 16-state North Region.
Foster strong relationships with news media outlets; pitch media and track results.
Advise Humana's leadership on working with the media; support business units seeking publicity for their efforts; and provide counsel on issues and crisis management.
Unify compelling words, memorable images and the latest technology to inform, engage and energize key external and internal audiences in support of Humana's strategic objectives.
Develop messaging, news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, digital and social media content, speeches, presentations, letters, internal communications.
This is a high-level individual contributor role, without direct reports, but PR agency support is available.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or related field OR equivalent work experience in related field
10 years of experience in media relations, PR and communications
Large organization/corporate media relations experience
Proven crisis management experience
Strong, demonstrated persuasive writing experience
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
Abundant creativity; strong desire to learn
Familiarity with public relations measurement techniques
Proven ability to interact with all levels of leadership
Ability to perform & exceed expectations in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment
Social media savvy
Preferred Qualifications
PR agency experience
Background in health care communications
Fluency in Spanish and/or other language(s)
