Job Description:
As a member of the Shell Canada External Relations team, provide External Relations (ER) support to the Shell Scotford upgrader, refinery, chemicals plants and carbon-capture-and-storage facility in support of the business’ license to operate and grow.
Serve as a public representative for Shell with key groups and stakeholders in the community.
Through sensing, stakeholder engagement and research, bring quality and relevant external insights to leadership to develop effective business, external relations, political, and regulatory strategy.
Understand the opportunities, challenges, trends, issues and risks in the external landscape through stakeholder sensing and engagement.
Manage and enhance the Shell brand at the asset level by creating effective branded communications projects as well as promoting brand coherence with internal stakeholders.
Crisis and incident communications support.
High level of business partnership to be able to advise on non-technical risk (NTR) and integrate NTR management at an asset level with other business and functional stakeholders.
Provide writing support to site leadership to craft content that connects with the target audience to achieve communications objectives.
Media, social media and digital channel delivery and compliance – including asset-level disclosure compliance and partnership with country-level media relations.
Assess social and reputational opportunities and risks at an early stage and develop business plans to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
Dimensions:
Support relationships with internal stakeholders, including in assets and projects in support of site External Relations strategy. Work in partnership with Government Relations, Media Relations, HSSE, Internal Communications and other related departments and functions. Work with external and internal stakeholders to build community support and advocacy for key site projects, permitting, and regulatory issues. Serve in regional and global External Relations networks to share best practices and advance Shell’s overall reputation plan.

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship.
Bachelor's degree required.
At least 5 years of experience in external or public relations/stakeholder management, internal relations/communications or Social Performance.
Prior experience in utilizing social media platforms for internal or external communications is an asset but not required.
External Relations experience in the Oil and Energy industry is preferred but not required.
Experience in media relations, issues management, stakeholder engagement, and the identification/management of non-technical risks and key stakeholder relationships that may impact Shell’s reputation.
Proven track record as a self-starter, willingness to assume management of complex projects, pay attention to detail and set priorities to meet deadline.
Ability to handle highly sensitive information and proven skills to deliver under time pressure and balance multiple projects concurrently.
Proficiency in using appropriate digital channels to communicate outside and inside the site.
