Job Description:
BASIC PURPOSE: Performs a variety of administrative duties, encompassing media relations, University publications and the web site, in support of communicating the mission and vision of Assumption University to internal and external audiences.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Serves as University's first point of contact for media inquiries. Follows up with the media directly.
2. Helps prepare and implement a strategic media relations program. Researches opportunities and develops an annual plan to position the University's academic reputation and highlight the faculty's strengths.
3. Conducts interviews and writes press releases or media advisories. Manages media when they are on campus.
4. Performs media training with faculty and staff.
5. Helps manage communication during crisis situations.
6. Creates hometown news releases for students.
7. Writes profiles and stories for the University's website and the alumni magazine.
8. Advises and supports various segments of the University on promotional and image issues to ensure the University maintains a positive image within the community.
9. Writes and edits various University materials and publications to support the mission of the University.
10. Prepares materials and publications according to schedule and adheres to graphic identity and editorial style standards.
11. Maintains a visible and active presence on campus, particularly at campus-wide and public events. Interacts with students, faculty and staff to seek out and communicate the good news and many accomplishments of the Assumption community
12. Helps develop content for the University's mobile app, AU Mobile.
13. Coordinates photography needs for departments and University events.
14. Serves as a Campus Security Authority for Clery reporting purposes and a Responsible Employee for Title IX reporting purposes.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
* Bachelor's degree required in liberal arts, journalism or communications.
* 6-8 or more years of media relations/public relations experience, preferably in an academic environment.
* Knowledge of reporters at the local and regional level.
* Excellent writing skills for various media in a variety of voices.
* Ability to work independently.
* Strong interpersonal, interview and verbal skills.
* Strong organization and time management skills.
* Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word products and the Internet
* Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
Additional Information:
SCOPE:
* Interacts on a regular basis with all members of the University community and various outside constituencies including the media, printers, vendors and consultants.
* Supervises the work-study students associated with Public Affairs.
