The Position
This is a 2 year- Limited Duration appointment.

About the position:
This is a new role within the Portland Police Bureau. The Multimedia Specialist is responsible for gathering and creating engaging content to share on an ongoing basis in support of Bureau goals of increasing transparency, educating the community, and building trust. This position is within the Strategic Communications Unit and reports to Public Information Officer
What you'll get to do:
Lead the production and development of social media/educational videos from original concept to completed project
Create and maintain a continuous calendar for multiple social media platforms
Assist in scheduling social media campaigns
Film events in the field, interview subject matter experts, and write content outline or scripts when needed
Perform post-production editing including incorporating graphics and effects
Generate ideas to help recruit new officers, further transparency, and build relationships and trust within the community by communicating the role officers play in public safety as well as why they do what they do.
Keep up with trends in social media posting for law enforcement-cross purpose posting across social media channels and evaluate what content is appropriate for each social media platform
Evaluate new social media platforms and if PPB should be utilizing them. Continue to be updated on social media demographics and overall knowledge of any updates to platforms.
Who you are:
An ideal candidate will have experience creating engaging content to diverse audiences. Although not required, experience creating content within public sector and/or law enforcement is desired.

Work Location
Currently, many positions with the City of Portland are being performed remotely due to COVID-19. Some employees are working from home full-time, while other roles cannot be filled in a remote status (firefighter, vehicle mechanic, street maintenance, etc.). In the future, current positions classified as full-time remote could: 1) remain full-time remote, 2) become a remote/onsite mix, or 3) revert to full-time at a city work location.
To Qualify
Applicants must specifically address and demonstrate in their supplemental question and resume how their education, training and/or experience, meets each of the following minimum qualifications:
Experience
developing social media content for diverse audiences
Experience
with videography, photography, and software programs that support the work (such as: Adobe Creative Suite)
Knowledge
of social media policy and public records retention
Knowledge
of and commitment to advancing equity through social media and storytelling
Experience with
project management i ncluding
managing timelines and deliverables
